Community Preservation Committee

The Community Preservation Committee helps develop and administer projects funded with Community Preservation Act monies; it encourages participation from interested community members.

Meetings

The Community Preservation Committee normally meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 5:30 pm in Howes House, and welcomes preliminary discussions of innovative projects. Currently, virtual meetings are being held in accordance with orders issued by the Governor during the current state of emergency.  There will be no in-person attendance by the public.  Meetings will be held via ZOOM application.  All ZOOM login instructions are posted with meeting agendas.  Background information on the Community Preservation Act and details on how to submit applications for funding are available at this website.

The following projects were approved for CPA funding at the 2024 Annual Town Meeting.

  • CPC ARTICLES APPROVED AT 2024 ATM

    Open Space/Recreation

    The Field Fund:  Approved $82,689 in 2024 to fund West Tisbury School playground resurfacing.

    Historic Resources

    Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club:  Approved $10,000 in 2024 for Old Mill safety improvements.

    Vineyard Preservation Trust:  Approved $60,000 in 2024 for Grange Hall foundation repairs.

    Community Housing

    Harbor Homes of Martha’s Vineyard: Approved $80,000 in 2023 for the regional project of acquiring permanent supportive housing for residents who may need medication supervision.  Approval was amended in 2024 to allow funding to be used for housing for the Island-wide homeless shelter program.

    Dukes County Rental Subsidies:  Approved $50,000 in 2024 to support the rental assistance program for Dukes County residents.

    Island Autism Group Community Housing:  Approved $104,081 in 2024 for construction of two four-bedroom residential units to house eight autistic island residents.

    Veterans’ Supportive Housing:  Approved $70,000 in 2024 as West Tisbury’s share for Island Housing Trust’s Veterans’ Outreach Center project to construct 12 one-bedroom rental apartments and a community room to serve veterans earning 80% or less of the area median income.

    401 State Road over 60 Community:  Approved $80,000 in 2024 as West Tisbury’s share for Island Housing Trust’s new construction of nine rental apartments and a community room for residents who are 60 years and over, and their families, earning up to 100% of the area median income.

    Red Arrow Road:  Approved $340,000 in 2024 to fund Habitat for Humanity’s construction of one affordable home-ownership unit, with preference to West Tisbury residents.
