Dukes County Emergency Management Association
West Tisbury Emergency Management is a member of the Dukes County Emergency Management Association (DCEMA). Dukes County Emergency Management Association is a coalition of Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, fire, healthcare, law enforcement, public health, public works, and community partner agencies within Dukes County (Martha's Vineyard and Cuttyhunk Islands). Together, we help our community through mitigation, planning, response, and recovery efforts before, during, and after emergencies and natural disasters. Dukes County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (DCREPC) hybrid meetings are held quarterly on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 10:30 am to noon and are open to all community stakeholders and members.
Dukes County Emergency Management Association recognizes and honors the many generations of Wôpanâak people who have lived and continue to be sustained in this territory for more than 10,000 years. We acknowledge Indigenous Peoples as the traditional stewards of the land, and the enduring relationship that exists between them and their traditional territories. The land on which we sit is the traditional territory of the Wampanoag Nation. We acknowledge the painful history of genocide and forced occupation of their territory, and we honor and respect the many diverse Indigenous Peoples connected to this land on which we gather.

Martha's Vineyard Community Emergency Response Team (MVCERT)
Are you ready to make a difference in your community? The Martha's Vineyard Community Emergency Response Team (MVCERT) invites you to our monthly meetings held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 6-8 pm at the West Tisbury Public Safety Building (454 State Road). These sessions, led by emergency management professionals like Jennelle Gadowski, Forrest Filler, Nelson Wirtz, and Ilona Metell, provide essential training to equip you with the skills needed to respond effectively in emergencies. From basic first aid to search and rescue, you'll gain hands-on experience that can save lives.
As climate change impacts our island with eroding shorelines and stronger storms, it's more important than ever to be prepared. MVCERT believes there's a role for everyone, no matter your age or background. Whether you're a lifelong resident or new to the island, you're welcome to join us in building a resilient future together. When emergencies strike, emergency management professionals/first responders rely on community support from volunteers to assist with things such as emergency sheltering, medical needs, emotional/spiritual care, etc., through MVCERT. Join us in making a difference!
Martha's Vineyard Disaster Animal Response Team (MVDART)
Martha's Vineyard Disaster Animal Response Team (MVDART) is a volunteer group dedicated to protecting Martha's Vineyard's animals, household pets, livestock, strays, and even wildlife, before, during, and after emergencies/disasters. We support first responders' efforts, especially when mass sheltering or evacuations are needed. While we encourage veterinarians, vet techs, and animal care specialists to join, no prior experience or certifications are required-just a love for animals! We provide all the training needed, from animal first aid/CPR to emergency animal sheltering. Join us in making a difference!
