What We Do
The West Tisbury Finance Committee is elected by the voters of West Tisbury and is charged with making recommendations about the financial management of the Town. Specifically, the Committee reviews the Town budget and makes recommendations on it and other warrant articles at Annual and Special Town Meetings. The Committee also approves transfers from the Reserve Fund. The committee is governed by a 1977 Town Bylaw as well as the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The Finance Committee usually meets every week from January to the week before Town Meeting at 4:30 at the Public Safety Building on State Road. At each of these weekly meetings a department(s) or regional agency appears before the committee to discuss its budget. After Town Meeting the committee usually meets monthly on the second Tuesday of the month until the end of the calendar year. All committee meetings are public and subject to the open meeting law of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and are posted at Town Hall at least 48 hours prior to the meeting.
