Mill Pond was given to the Town in 1948, and was last dredged in 1969. Together with the adjacent mill, dating to the 18th century, the pond is a vital part of West Tisbury’s historic and rural character. Dredging may be needed to preserve its habitat and aesthetic value; the need for rehabilitation has been documented by an independent technical study. The CPC recommends the allocation of $50,000 toward the rehabilitation of Mill Pond, including design work and permitting required for dredging operations.
ARTICLE 26: To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from the Community Preservation Historical Resources reserve the sum of $10,000, and from the Community Preservation Undesignated reserve the sum of $40,000 for permitting the dredging and rehabilitation of Mill Pond including but not limited to design work.
